Oxygen is produced by photosynthetic organisms like algae and diatoms. It's used by aerobic organisms to perform respiration and produce energy, releasing Carbon Dioxide in the process.
Produced by organisms as a byproduct of respiration. Photosynthetic organisms consume it, along with light and water to produce energy and Oxygen.
Methane is produced by certain "methanogenic" archaea and bacteria. It can be broken down and transformed into Carbon Dioxide by methanotrophic organisms.

You get research points (RP) when a cell division occurs. Spending RP modifies the genetics of the current organism being tracked.
